Today I Sold Our Vespa Scooter

Image
Josh and Selena - the new owners.   We loaded and tied it in the back of their truck This Vespa Primavera 150 was built in March of 2017. Lulu and I enjoyed riding it for 1570 miles - mostly over to FSU campus. It cost $6400 new.  It had 12 horsepower - fuel injection - anti-lock brakes - disk brakes - 150cc engine - it could go 70 mph. It could squeeze about 100 miles out of a gallon of gasoline. I think the Vespa is the only scooter with an all steel body and frame. They are made in Italy at the town of Pontedera. We visited the factory and museum there. After having scooters for 60 years - I think I have tempted fate enough. We will have to use the red car more in its place. If we do get something to replace it - it will be electric.  We wish the new owners Josh and Selena the best luck with it. They also have another Vespa 50 Scooter.

Image
2020 Tesla Model Y I have a friend that is selling his 2020 Tesla Model Y. It has 35,000 miles on it. He just took delivery on his new Tesla Truck. the car is in excellent condition and loaded with extra. It cost over $65,000 - but it selling for $35,000. If I did not have my red Tesla - I would buy this one on the spot.  Much room inside - back seats fold flat to make a bed It has more room than our car. It is easier to get into and out of.

10 Years After -

This is the Catherine Murat House. This is smaller than our home.  We are in our 1816 Seminole Drive home for over 10 years. We started building it in August of 2013. It took our builder Gary Shiver 100 work days to finish the home - including tearing the brick home down that was on the lot. I visited Gary yesterday - he was building a 9000 square foot home north of town. He does them one at a time.  We based the home on the Catherine Murat House at the Tallahassee Museum. Catherine was one of the founding mothers of the community. Her home has been moved and restored in the museum. It is a classic Florida Plantation.  Our home is 60 feet by 60 feet - 3600 square feet under roof. It also has a 1200 square feet of finished upstairs.  Artist rendering of our plans - side view Artist rendering of our plans - front view The 2 x 6 inch stud frame was completed  by work day 18. This was done by a crew of 4 men.

The Day I Almost Bought This Ford Model T for $10,000

Image
Friday, October 19, 2012 Almost a Barn Find - a 1927 Ford Model T Roadster This is an original - all metal - 1927 Ford Model T Roadster. I have always wanted to own a Model T Ford - here was my chance. Tom had posted his for sale in Craigslist a few weeks back - I contacted him to go take a look at it. Yesterday - Lulu and I drove the Prius about 25 miles east of town. Lulu usually does not like to go along on my "American Pickers" tours although she does not miss that show when it comes on TV. Henry Ford built the Model T from 1908 to 1928. He sold over 20 million of them. At one time - 50% of all the cars in the world were Model T's. No - Henry did not invent the automobile. Henry did not even invent the production line or interchangeable parts - but he did take all those ideas and roll them into one. While other cars were selling for thousands of dollars - Ford produced cars for $250 each. He did this on a production line in Detroit that paid workers $5 a day - doubl...

I Got to Inspect A New Tesla Truck and Also Test Full Self Driving (FSD) in a Tesla Model Y

Image
John's new Tesla Truck John's old - 4 year old Model Y Today I had the pleasure of inspecting a Tesla Truck - they call it a Cybertruck - up close and personal. John - a fellow member of the electric car club - met me at his home to show me the truck. He also took me for a drive in his 2020 Tesla Model Y with full self driving (FSD). My Tesla Model 3 also has FSD but I do not pay the $200 monthly premium to use it. I have autopilot which is the poor man's version of FSD.  First off - I loved his 2020 Tesla Model Y. It is bigger inside and taller on the outside than my car. It is easier to get in and out of - it has a big hatchback for loading stuff. Think of it as an SUV. John bought it 4 years ago for $60000. It has 35,000 miles on it - and he is asking $35,000 for it. So I cost him $25,000 for 4 years of driving. It is a well kept perfect car. It takes some getting used to having the car turning - starting - stopping - changing lanes - etc - all by itself. It was pretty g...

We Saw Jim Gaffigan in Albany Georgia Last Night

Image
The Albany Civic Center - Jim Gaffigan Show We enjoy watching Jim Gaffigan on Netflix. He talks mostly about being a father - being fat - and being lazy. Lulu got tickets online - booked a Hilton Hotel next to the arena - so we hopped in the red car and headed up the highway around 11 am Saturday. It is about 90 miles each way - and we took a route that took us to Moultrie GA to see a place where they make STOL (short talk off and landing) airplanes. Unfortunately no one was there - but we did stumble across a craft and junk sale at the airport.  We arrived in Albany around 2 pm - and checked right into our hotel. We had supper in the hotel right before the 7 pm show. We were show seated about 7:10 - due to slow security going into the arena. A couple warmup acts started around 7:30 - and Jim hit the stage around 8 pm. I am guessing the arena was about ⅓ full. We paid extra for premium seats and were disappointed that we were center in Row 22 on floor. Jim was funny - but honestly ...

Crucian or Cruzan - Our Last Evening in St Croix - Tomorrow We Fly Home to Tallahassee

Brown Sugar - Dark Rum In 1917 - the USA bought Virgin Island to protect the sea routes coming out of the Panama Canal. They paid $25 million in gold to Denmark for the place. Before that the Virgin Islands mostly grew sugar. They needed lots of slaves that came from Africa. The sugar was turned to rum - and was shipped throughout  the world. The people here are mostly slave descendants. The average household makes about $25,000. Tourism is the money crop today.  St Croix is just below the Tropic of Cancer - so the weather all year is pretty nice. We swam in 82 degree ocean with 82 degree air. There was a constant on shore breeze.  Yesterday was a visit to Buck Island National Park Reef. The island is surrounded by coral reef which causes the waves to break way off shore. The national park has a trail you can follow underwater. We had snorkels - fins - masks - and bladder vests. We stayed out in the reef about 2 hours - and saw lots of fish - even a barracuda.  Today...
