Saturday in St Croix - We Split Out Time Between Beach - Downtown Shopping - Watching FSU Basketball

$400 for a round trip to St Thomas - just 40 miles away.
I cannot see how locals afford that.
Average household income here is $28,000 a year.

It is 4 pm Saturday. We are watching FSU girls basketball losing on TV to NCSU. We can get any TV program we want here. We put our cell phone on the porch. It catches wifi from the neighbors pool area. We can then contact our TV back home. Then the iPhone sends the signal thru the glass door - to the smart TV inside. It hasn't helped FSU much - they are losing by 15 at the half.

This morning we went to the seaplane airport - which is right downtown on the harbor pier. You can catch plane from here to St Thomas - where the capital city of Charlotte Amalie is. It is a much busier port - with many cruise ships. It is 40 miles away. I was disappointed that a round trip there is $400 on a float plane. We only paid $240 round trip from Tallahassee to St Croix - a distance of 1500 miles. I just can't justify paying $400 to go 40 miles. We will just enjoy this island. Tomorrow we will go to see the "pig drinking and crushing beer cans" - local flavor no less.

Monday we booked an excursion to Buck Island to do some snorkeling for $80 for 5 hours - it includes equipment. It is supposed to be some of the greatest reef watching in the world.

USA bought the Virgin Islands from Denmark in 1917 for $25 million. They got St Croix - St Thomas - St John - Little St James - and a few others. Remember - in 1867 - we bought Alaska from Russia for $7 million! That sale almost doubled our country.

The scale house. Everything coming onto and off of the island went thru here.
Slaves in. Sugar - Rum - Molasses - Cotton out.

Christiansted - old light house on

Goods were store here for shipment

Our condo beach - water is 80. Air is 85.
